Wan-An Chiang

Mayor of Taipei City

Wan-An Chiang is the current Mayor of Taipei City. Born in 1978 in Taipei, he is married and a father of three. In 2022, he ran for Mayor of Taipei for the first time and was elected at the age of 44, making him the youngest mayor in the city’s history. With a vision to lead the city through innovation and AI-driven smart city development, he is committed to transforming Taipei into a world-class, livable city.

Prior to his mayoral role, he served as a legislator in Taiwan’s Legislative Yuan, elected to the 9th term in 2016 and re-elected for the 10th term in 2020. He has also held key positions within the Kuomintang (KMT), including Central Standing Committee Member of the KMT Central Committee and Board Director of the National Policy Foundation.

Before entering politics, Chiang practiced law in the United States. He began his legal career at the corporate law firm Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati (WSGR) in Palo Alto, California, and later co-founded Wanze Foreign Legal Affairs Law Firm. He returned to Taiwan in 2013. He holds dual bachelor’s degrees in Diplomacy and Law from National Chengchi University, and a Doctor of Jurisprudence (J.D.) from the Carey Law School at the University of Pennsylvania.
