Rachel Bernstein is a Fulbright Master’s Fellow at National Chengchi University pursuing a degree in Asia-Pacific Studies. Prior to joining Fulbright, she was an assistant director with the Political and Security Affairs group at the National Bureau of Asian Research (NBR). In this position she managed NBR’s Taiwan portfolio, and projects relating to China’s grand strategy and U.S. engagement with allies and partners in the Indo-Pacific. She also supported NBR’s John M. Shalikashvili Chair in National Security Studies. Previously, Ms. Bernstein was a Department of State intern at the American Institute in Taiwan. She also studied in Kunming, China, and received the Critical Language Scholarship to study Mandarin in Tainan, Taiwan. She is a graduate of Barnard College of Columbia University with a BA in Asian and Middle Eastern cultures with a focus on East Asian Studies and a minor in political science.
