Chen Ming-chi

Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and former Deputy Minister of the Mainland Affairs Council, Republic of China (Taiwan)

Dr. Chen Ming-chi (陳明祺) is Taiwan’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, supervising North America, Central and South America and Caribbeans, Economic Cooperation, Public Diplomacy, and NGO Affairs.

He was the Chief Executive Officer at the Institute for National Defense and Security Research (INDSR), Taiwan’s premier think tank under the Ministry of National Defense. After his service at the INDSR, he had returned to his academic position as an Associate Professor of Sociology at National Tsing Hua University.

Before joining INDSR, Dr. Chen served as a Senior Advisor at the National Security Council (NSC), providing critical analysis of Chinese politics and society to decision-makers. From 2018 to 2020, he held the position of Deputy Minister at the Mainland Affairs Council (MAC).

Dr. Chen’s research interests include economic sociology, contemporary Chinese society, and complex organizations. He holds a Ph.D. in Sociology from Yale University (2002) and a B.A. in Sociology from National Taiwan University.
