Li’amanaia Dr. Roannie Ng Shiu is a Senior Research Fellow in Pacific Health and Co-Director of Te Poutoko Ora a Kiwa | Centre for Pacific and Global Health at the University of Auckland (UOA). She hails from the Samoan villages of Savaia, where she received the chiefly title Li’amanaia, and Leone. After graduating with her PhD from the UOA in 2011, she was appointed as the inaugural Pasifika Australia Research Fellow at the Australian National University. In 2021, Li’amanaia returned to the UOA to support Pacific research and student recruitment strategic initiatives. She is currently the Working Group One Lead for the Lancet Countdown’s Small Island Developing States (SIDS) Regional Centre.
