Li’amanaia Dr. Roannie Ng Shiu is a senior research fellow in Pacific health and co-director of Te Poutoko Ora a Kiwa (Centre for Pacific and Global Health) at the University of Auckland (UOA). She also serves as the executive director of the Pacific Academy of Sciences (PAS). She hails from the Samoan villages of Savaia, where she received the chiefly title Li’amanaia, and Leone. After graduating with her PhD from the UOA in 2011, Dr. Ng Shiu was appointed as the inaugural Pasifika Australia Research Fellow at the Australian National University. In 2021, Li’amanaia returned to the UOA to support Pacific research and student recruitment strategic initiatives. She is currently the Working Group One Lead for the Lancet Countdown’s Small Island Developing States (SIDS) Regional Centre, bringing insights on climate change and health to small island contexts. She has published on topics including health equity, Pacific health systems, and climate impacts on island health.
