About CAPRI

The Center for Asia-Pacific Resilience and Innovation (CAPRI) is Taiwan’s first nongovernmental, nonpartisan, international policy think tank. Established in 2022, CAPRI’s mission is to enhance global resilience and promote innovative policy by drawing on the experiences of the Asia-Pacific region through comparative public policy research. Our research and convening at the intersection of health, economic growth, environmental sustainability, and technological transformation provide policy insights from the Asia Pacific for policymakers, industry leaders, the media, and the public.

The Opportunity

We are looking for a CEO and Executive Director to lead CAPRI’s operations, finances, fundraising, government relations, and programming from our office in Taipei. The CEO will report to the Chair and Board of Directors and manage a bilingual team of highly motivated and globally minded staff to develop and implement CAPRI’s strategic plans. Working closely with the directors of research, engagement, administration, and external affairs, the CEO will identify, initiate, and strengthen relationships with donors as well as research and convening partners; shape CAPRI’s international profile; oversee the recruitment of additional research and administrative staff; represent CAPRI externally, undertake financial forecasting, and ensure transparency, integrity, and discipline in all financial and legal matters. They will also oversee the development of CAPRI USA, CAPRI’s independent affiliate in the US. As part of this fledgling organization pioneering innovative ways of undertaking research and engaging policy communities, the CEO will have an instrumental role in shaping CAPRI’s external character as well as its internal culture.

Required Qualifications

  • Outstanding leadership, management, budgeting, and organizational skills, preferably in an entrepreneurial environment and especially in nonprofit or academic organizations
  • Interest in building an innovative culture and pioneering a new kind of organization in Asia and Taiwan
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and Chinese
  • Motivation to work within a start-up organizational structure
  • Ability to create and maintain local and global partnerships with public, private, and nonprofit organizations
  • An intellectual interest in the Asia Pacific, public policy, innovation, and governance

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s, JD, or PhD in a field relevant to CAPRI’s areas of focus
  • At least 10 years of leadership and management experience in nonprofit, think tank, or research organizations
  • Experience in conducting and communicating policy research
  • Expertise in fundraising for nonprofit, public policy, or research organizations
  • Experience in managing relations with governments and multilateral organizations in the region
  • Experience working in Taiwan with government agencies, universities, local and international corporations, business associations, and civil society

Location

On-site in Taipei. The executive director will be required to travel occasionally, especially within Asia and to the US and Europe.

Salary

Competitive; determined in light of position-related experience and professional accomplishments
