The Center for Asia-Pacific Resilience and Innovation (CAPRI) is a nongovernmental, nonpartisan, international think tank. CAPRI’s mission is to enhance global resilience and promote innovative governance by drawing on the experiences of the Asia-Pacific region through comparative public policy research. Our interdisciplinary research at the intersection of health, economic growth, and environmental sustainability provides informed and insightful policy analysis to governments, leaders, media, and the public.

The Opportunity

We are looking for a Senior Director of Research to design CAPRI’s interdisciplinary research strategy. As a creative force behind CAPRI’s research agenda, this Senior Director will supervise Director of Research Caroline Fried and advise the research, engagement, and administrative teams to develop CAPRI’s long-term strategy, build global networks of experts and researchers, and identify and cultivate partnership opportunities within and outside the Asia Pacific. The Senior Director of Research will identify or develop metrics for comprehensively measuring the policy impact of CAPRI’s research as well as represent CAPRI in external academic, research, and policy engagements. They will also work closely with the management team to identify external general or project-specific funding opportunities to support CAPRI’s research strategy.

Required Qualifications

  • Ph.D. or Master’s degree in a field relevant to CAPRI’s areas of focus
  • At least 10 years’ experience in research, preferably in leading teams in policy or academic research on the Asia Pacific
  • Experience working in policy analysis, either as a partner or in a think tank or university research center, focusing on policy recommendations
  • A creative outlook toward research, collaboration, and public policy solutions in the Asia Pacific
  • Extensive scholarship in a field relevant to CAPRI’s areas of focus, preferably in interdisciplinary and applied policy research
  • Experience leading and organizing research projects across disciplines and geographies
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Interest in working with the private sector
  • Ability to work within a flat, growing, start-up organization

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in organizing collaboration in think tanks, academic institutions, or research organizations
  • Experience working in a start-up organizational culture
  • Written or oral communication skills in Chinese or other Asian languages

Location

On-site in Taipei. The senior director of research will be occasionally required to travel to places where CAPRI has research partners, especially in the Asia Pacific.

Salary

Competitive; determined in light of position-related experience, professional accomplishments, and education
