For this project, a CAPRI-led group of public health experts from Australia, India, Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan produce policy memos on how these democracies addressed public health challenges during COVID-19 through technological innovation while protecting personal privacy.
Taiwan needs to be able to endure challenges of health, economy, and sustainability and emerge even more resilient. Taiwan needs interdisciplinary thinking, talent cultivation, and a more international mindset to accomplish this.
Taiwan is important to the world because it is an example of good democratic governance, more sustainable business, and improved quality of life that transcend the geopolitical challenges of our day.
Developed for a broad global audience, this report focuses on vaccines as key to resilience in the Asia Pacific. In what is still a fast-moving environment, this report draws on interviews with regional experts and additional research in late 2021 to identify factors in the Asia Pacific that have affected vaccine equity and rollout during the pandemic and actions that will contribute to resilience in the future.
This chapter by the CAPRI research team with NBR analyzed Taiwan’s double bind of trying to preserve its identity against increasing pressure from both Washington and Beijing while also managing its “high-income trap” of wage stagnation, increasing living costs, energy insecurity, and political polarization.
