CAPRI representatives visited the Embassy of the Republic of the Marshall Islands to share the CAPRI’s report “Sustainability and Resilience in Pacific Island Health Systems” with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of the Marshall Islands to the Republic of China (Taiwan) Anjanette Kattil.
Ambassador Kattil has played a vital role in strengthening Taiwan–Marshall Islands relations, particularly in areas of enhancing cultural exchange, cultivating medical talent, and supporting women’s empowerment initiatives. She highlighted that the Marshall Islands faces several challenges, including noncommunicable diseases, long-term effects of nuclear testing, a shortage of healthcare workers, and the growing impacts of climate change. These issues require particular attention and necessitate solutions tailored to the specific context of the Pacific Island countries.
CAPRI’s research, performed as the PHSSR’s Asia-Pacific hub, comprehensively examines the strengths and challenges of the health systems of Marshall Islands, Tonga, and Vanuatu and offers actionable policy recommendations. Given the need for a strong Pacific representation and voice, a report like this is both timely and important.
